Is Self Confidence Overrated?

Matthew 14:
23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24 but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them. 25 And early in the morning he came walking toward them on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, "Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid." 28 Peter answered him, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water." 29 He said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?

What was Peter's Sin?                  Perhaps it was over Self-Confidence!  Why do we worry about:    "Things we cannot control,         things about people we cannot control,               things we only wish we could control, and                and especially                    things that only God can control?"  In "modern" societies we are taught to be self-confident, stand up for ourselves, and not let people run over us.  We hear it from parents, school teachers, co-workers, in songs, and especially TV.   Is this always really good for us?    Peter had impetus self-confidence, but fell and failed many times and on this occasion above sank in his worry.  When we depend solely on ourselves and fail, we often do not try again.  Peter's sin was not keeping his eye on Jesus and in looking at the storm lost sight of his salvation from the storm around him.  In taking his eye off Jesus and Jesus' way, Peter sank.  But, Jesus is always faithful, and when we return to His vision for our lives, in His saving grace, He ALWAYS saves, rescues, and forgive us, we just have to repent and Claim Christ as our Lord and Savior.  We must allow Christ to be our vision               ........in the world ahead of us, otherwise, we are like Peter....      .........sinking in our own storms.  With self-confidence through the Lord, as Peter, it is easy to use failure as just a stepping stone to greater success!   Thanks be to God for sending us Jesus......       and not a committee.  Thanks be to God.                                                                              Return to Main Menu      Click here for more about:     Self Confidence  Click here for more about "Storms in Our Lives
