Is Self Confidence Overrated?

Is Self Confidence Overrated?

Matthew 14:
23 And after he had dismissed the crowds, he went up the mountain by himself to pray. When evening came, he was there alone, 24 but by this time the boat, battered by the waves, was far from the land, for the wind was against them. 25 And early in the morning he came walking toward them on the sea. 26 But when the disciples saw him walking on the sea, they were terrified, saying, "It is a ghost!" And they cried out in fear. 27 But immediately Jesus spoke to them and said, "Take heart, it is I; do not be afraid." 28 Peter answered him, "Lord, if it is you, command me to come to you on the water." 29 He said, "Come." So Peter got out of the boat, started walking on the water, and came toward Jesus. 30 But when he noticed the strong wind, he became frightened, and beginning to sink, he cried out, "Lord, save me!" 31 Jesus immediately reached out his hand and caught him, saying to him, "You of little faith, why did you doubt?

What was Peter's Sin?                  Perhaps it was over Self-Confidence!  Why do we worry about:    "Things we cannot control,         things about people we cannot control,               things we only wish we could control, and                and especially                    things that only God can control?"  In "modern" societies we are taught to be self-confident, stand up for ourselves, and not let people run over us.  We hear it from parents, school teachers, co-workers, in songs, and especially TV.   Is this always really good for us?    Peter had impetus self-confidence, but fell and failed many times and on this occasion above sank in his worry.  When we depend solely on ourselves and fail, we often do not try again.  Peter's sin was not keeping his eye on Jesus and in looking at the storm lost sight of his salvation from the storm around him.  In taking his eye off Jesus and Jesus' way, Peter sank.  But, Jesus is always faithful, and when we return to His vision for our lives, in His saving grace, He ALWAYS saves, rescues, and forgive us, we just have to repent and Claim Christ as our Lord and Savior.  We must allow Christ to be our vision               ........in the world ahead of us, otherwise, we are like Peter....      .........sinking in our own storms.  With self-confidence through the Lord, as Peter, it is easy to use failure as just a stepping stone to greater success!   Thanks be to God for sending us Jesus......       and not a committee.  Thanks be to God.                                                                              Return to Main Menu      Click here for more about:     Self Confidence  Click here for more about "Storms in Our Lives

1st Thessalonians 5:16-21*

An eagle can sense
    a coming bad storm
In doing so,
    the eagle files
      to the highest stable
          tree limb and
 awaits the storm's arrival.

As the storm approaches,
the eagle stretches out its wings,
allowing the wind to lift it up over the storm.

Likewise,
We must prepare for the storms that come in our lives,
Then pray for the Breath of God to come and
     lift our spirit,
so that just like the eagle, we too can survive our storms.

Our storms will come, we must be prepared.
We must pray, and pray, and pray everyday so that
WE can truly know the Holy Spirit in your life.

      Because,
Through the infilling of our lives
                        of God's Holy Spirit**,

We do not just survive through our storms
             rather,
                        We thrive in our storms.

Only then can you truly be prepared to Receive
The Breath of God to lift your Spirit
in your greatest time of weakness,
Only then can you be truly prepared for
     the Storms in Your Life.

In receiving the Breath of God, the Holy Spirit, into our lives,
only then do
We learn to do what God wants for us in our lives,
We learn that our storms help us grow
       in our Wisdom through Him.
We learn that in the darkness of our storms
we grow the most in the Light of Trusting Him.

Thanks be to God for ALL His Provisions in our lives.

Pray, and Pray, and Pray

   every day
For the Holy Spirit to Fill Your Life.

** Acts 4:8-12The Power of the Holy Spirit filling our lives8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them: “Rulers and elders of the people! 9 If we are being called to account today for an act of kindness shown to a man who was lame and are being asked how he was healed, 10 then know this, you and all the people of Israel: It is by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified but whom God raised from the dead, that this man stands before you healed. 11 Jesus is “ ‘the stone you builders rejected, which has become the cornerstone.’
12 Salvation is found in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given to mankind by which we must be saved.”

Note-  Peter did not defend his actions of healing on the Sabbath,
Rather, He condemned the very ones who put Jesus to death.
