Great Faith

Great Faith,
How Great is Your Faith,  Your Trust?

Genesis 22

1  Some time later God tested Abraham. He said to him, "Abraham!" "Here I am," he replied.
2  Then God said, "Take your son, your only son, Isaac, whom you love, and go to the region of Moriah. Sacrifice him there as a burnt offering on one of the mountains I will tell you about."
3  Early the next morning Abraham got up and saddled his donkey. He took with him two of his servants and his son Isaac. When he had cut enough wood for the burnt offering, he set out for the place God had told him about.
4  On the third day Abraham looked up and saw the place in the distance.
5  He said to his servants, "Stay here with the donkey while I and the boy go over there. We will worship and then we will come back to you."

Years ago in reading the above passage, I often wondered if I could have done what Abraham did.  I could not even understand how Abraham even went as far as he did in obeying God.  He heard God's call, did not argue, did not whine, did not sulk, but in obedience and submission, on the next morning took Isaac to the mountains to complete God's command.  He did not even ask, "Why?"  I feel strongly, that I would have been hard pressed to do what Abraham.  I am sure that as they went to the mountain with the wood Isaac had numerous questions in his mind wanting to know "where is the lamb?" as in verse 7.  I cannot image Isaac being willingly happy laying on the alter.  I would be screaming for the servants, "Help, daddy has really lost it, come get me, NOW!"

But, Abraham was showing Great Faith in God's promise to him and Sarah while he was carrying the firewood to where God showed him, building the alter, binding his son, and placing his son on the alter.  Abraham said so in Verse 5.  Abraham had total and absolute trust in God.  In verse 5, he tells his servants "... We will worship and then we will come back to you."   Abraham did not totally understand, he just trusted.

God had promised Abraham "I will make you a great nation..." (Genesis 12:2) and Abraham was in total reliance on Him and His Promise.

Abraham showed incredible Great Faith in God,
   He showed absolute trust,
In this demonstrated his faith in God's Promise.

To this day, God has been faithful to the decedents of Abraham, the nation of Israel, the nation Abraham was promised even has some of their land returned to them.

We must have the faith and trust of Abraham.

Since God is still faithful to the promises to Abraham,
How much more will God be faithful to those
        who submit to the Lord,
who bind themselves in the Holy Spirit, and
who confess Jesus Christ is Lord.

As I have matured in my faith,
I hope I could follow in Faith Abraham's example.

Our Great Humble Thanks and Praise be to God
And for His Promise of Jesus,
    Our Lord and Savior.

Thanks be to God.
