11:25-27pp -- Lk 10:21,22

25At that time Jesus said, "I praise you, Father, Lord of heaven and earth, because you have hidden these things from the wise and learned, and revealed them to little children.26Yes, Father, for this was your good pleasure.27"All things have been committed to me by my Father. No one knows the Son except the Father, and no one knows the Father except the Son and those to whom the Son chooses to reveal him.28"Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.29Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls.30For my yoke is easy and my burden is light."

The bend in the road ahead often is just God hiding new vistas to our thoughts and vision of what life is for us. We have to travel the road in faith until we get to the next bend to really know what He has for us.  As we find the bend we see the blessings ahead in His plan for us. But, we must travel the road. Often there are forks in the road. 

The bend is in the distance on the road we travel may often seem to be a hard journy at times, and sometimes a fork in the road looks good.  All to often what looks good and the fork in the road looks well traveled and easy but but all too often that fork is nothing but a poor diversion down to the dead end of sin. 

Seek in prayer, Bible Study, and Worship the path in this life God has for us.  Travel the path God lays out for us in faith, travel in a relationship with Him, that the path He has for us is sometimes difficult but always to the Truth.   His Goal for us is not always visible, but at the bend we will see His way is still the best for our humble lives.  

God blessings, His answers to our prayers, the bend in the road, always come in our patience, just at the right time, and are always worth the wait in our journey to the bend in the road.

At the Bend in the Road, there may be time for rest.  But, the Journey of His road for us will continue, we must continue our Journey in Seeking our Relationship with God- our Faith.

A Random Thought on Selfish Self-Control

We are not created to selfishly control and direct every event and activity influencing our lives. 

God gives us the ability to affect much of our lives.  But, there is so much influence, both good and bad, from other people and nature that we have absolutely no ability to change, affect, or control that influence and its effect on what we think, do, and feel.

Far too often, events acting on our lives for which we have no control can lead us into worry.  One of Jesus' commands was to not worry.  What He said was good for the people who heard it,  is still good and righteous for us today, and will positivly guide our future!

Matthew 6:31-34

31 So do not worry, saying,         'What shall we eat?' or 'What shall we drink?' or 'What shall we wear?'32 For the pagans run after all these things, and         your heavenly Father knows that you need them.33  But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and        all these things will be given to you as well.34 Therefore do not worry about tomorrow,              for tomorrow will worry about itself.         Each day has enough trouble of its own.
Jesus tells us not to worry.  The Truth of that comes in the fact that everything He said, did, taught, and thought was verified by His Resurrection!  
We MUST Trust His Truth and His Commands to us.
Therefore, worry becomes sinful because it puts a barrier between us and Trusting God.  We can be concerned, but excessive concern that is worry over things we cannot control is sinful.  It is as selfishly telling God, "I will not Trust you to help me through this worry!"
Jesus had another command for us:John 14:1Jesus Comforts His Disciples
1"Do not let your hearts be troubled.          Trust in God; trust also in me."
It is hard to Worship God to your fullest when you are worried. Seek to be concerned about the things you can change, pray for wisdom to make the change, and lift the rest to Him in Trust.

Self Confidence, Part 1 of 2

Part 2 describes describing a 24 year old petrified soldier going into battle in Vietnam with new confidence attained through prayer.   Part 3 will discuss Jesus’ example of depending on God in His battle leading to His Crucifixion.

Self-confidence is a self acquired behavior giving us strength to  be "successful".  However, when we fail really big and often or bad things happen to us, self doubt over comes that self-confidence and can affect all aspects of our lives.  Jesus instilled the Holy Spirit in his disciples* after His resurrection, and our salvation brings us the same.  When the Holy Spirit instills in us God's confidence, any failure in our lives, any mistake in our judgment, any injustice we feel  becomes a stepping stone to our next successes.  


Scripture:  Acts 4: 1-16   (<< click here to read)   Peter standing before the Sanhedrin in Jerusalem, the Temple ruling party, explaining by whose power he does his deeds and Miracles.

By the fact that Acts is generally accepted as the second part of the Gospel of Luke and Acts coming just after the anointing of the Disciples with the Holy Spirit, we find the Disciples, and especially Peter, had become changed men.  The disciples just weeks earlier had sequestered themselves into a little upper room, no doubt trying to be quiet as they were afraid they might be the next ones crucified.  They had lost all confidence by forgetting what Jesus had told them earlier.  In John 20:20-23 we are told that Jesus came to them, and with just His breath, He anointed them with the Holy Spirit.  In that moment, they no longer were afraid and blessed with God’s Confidence in their lives.

Acts 4:8 records in standing before the very people who put Jesus to death (the Sanhedrin), It says, “8  Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders, 9 If we are questioned today because of a good deed done to someone who was sick and are asked how this man has been healed,  10 let it be known to all of you, and to all the people of Israel, that this man is standing before you in good health by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead.

Self Confidence is fleeting with the wind.  Just as in the disciples in the upperroom, God’s instilled confidence through the anointing of the Holy Spirit is always with us when we accept Jesus as Lord and Savior.  It is through prayer, Bible Study, and Rightous Fellowship and Worship with fellow believers we come to truly know the the power of Holy Spirit in our lives.  Then, we too can Trust our Confidence through (1) the faith God puts in us and (2) the guidance of the Holy Spirit, just as Peter did.
