Jesus Asked, "What do Your Want?"

Jesus asked, "What do you want?"

Jesus' First Disciples

1:40-42pp -- Mt 4:18-22; Mk 1:16-20; Lk 5:2-11

John 1:
35The next day John was there again with two of his disciples.36When he saw Jesus passing by, he said, "Look, the Lamb of God!"37When the two disciples heard him say this, they followed Jesus.38Turning around, Jesus saw them following and asked, "What do you want?" They said, "Rabbi"(which means Teacher), "where are you staying?"39"Come," he replied, "and you will see." So they went and saw where he was staying, and spent that day with him. It was about the tenth hour.
Christians rightly claim the Power of God found in the Bible.  What is exciting to find in the Bible is the people that God chooses to express His love for us, carry our His work in this world, and the people He uses to bring others to Christ.

John the Baptist had a great job to do!  He was not the first to do God's work, but He did have the honor of Baptizing Jesus and announcing to the world the coming of Jesus as the "Lamb of God".

Jesus' words in the New Testament bring many and new thoughts as we study the Gospels.  He has statements of living life as we find in the Sermon on the Mount, He has commands for us that are good for us such as, "Repent'- the first command, "Do not worry...", "Seek...", and "Go...".  He has powerful questions too:  "Who do you say that I am?" and the question I bring you for this message.

I have read and studied John 1 many times, perhaps 100+ times as I find it so very interesting.  But, the exciting part of reading scripture over and over is the newness we sometimes find in a passage previously read many times.

Life is a journey, and Jesus puts the eternal question to us, "What do you want?"  This is a question we answer with our lives and how we live and is best answered in allowing the Word of God to show us the answer.  Our lives come to feel complete in knowing God's word for our lives!  Prayer and Bible Study- it changes our lives.

For most people who are not too selfish, we look for something greater in our lives than our simple everyday existence.  We wake up with a desire to have a reason to live.  We often find this in good things.  Things like family and a good job to support our family.  But, we can still feel a bit empty.

That universal emptiness is filled with the Word of God filling our lives.  The Bible gives us the life filling Word,  From the Old Testament to the last period in the Revelation we find inspiration that fills our lives, leads us in our daily behaviors, and gives us our Salvation.

But the clearest place in the Word, to narrow the search to find that life filling inspiration is the Life of Jesus, His words, and behaviors.  Jesus' life is the Word of God in the flesh, God's desire for us on display to the world, and God's absolute intentional and ultimate will for our lives!  Jesus - what He brought to us, still changes lives.  In the Old Testament, the Hebrews had the Law, the New Testament brings the Love of God in full view, a Love that established God's desire to have a Personal Relationship with us.  His Word, Jesus' Words changes lives, still today.

In this passage the question, "What do you want?" is a question on two levels.  On a simple level, Jesus is asking why are you following me.  On a deeper lever, Jesus is asking them the eternal question- to explain what is it they really want in life.  In the same manner, Jesus still today is asking us in this passage, "What is it you want in your life?"

Their answer indicates they want to be with Jesus for a while.  In looking for something in our lives greater than ourselves, we find it in Jesus, the Light of the World.

We should want to be like the two men following Jesus, we should want to spend the day with Him as they did until the 10th hour (4PM).    Find the day and find the time, in humility you will not be disappointed.

To answer the question "What is it you want in your life" we look to another eternal question Jesus asked His disciples in His last week before they arrived in Jerusalem.  In His concern for them, Jesus asked them, "Who do you say that I am?"  This is The Question of the Ages.  Everyone who comes to know about Christ must answer this question and it will fill all emptiness in their life.

When we come to know about Jesus, we must be like Peter who was quick to answer,
"You are the Christ, Son of the Living God."

Fill the raw emptiness all of us feel at sometime in our lives, fill it with the Life of Jesus.  If you have not accepted Jesus as your Lord and Savior, do so now, your eternal life depends on it.  Pray on your knees, "Love God, I accept Jesus as Lord and Savior of my life.  I accept that Jesus died on a cross, shed His blood for my sins, and I repent of my sins.  I accept that Jesus show us how to live, and you God verified His life and His teachings in raising Him from the dead.  Thank you God, thank you Jesus.  Amen."

If you have just fully accepted Jesus as Lord and Savior, a new life is ahead of you.  OR  if you want to know more about living a life in Christ, There is much to do.  Find a church that teaches and preaches having 'A Personal Relationship with Jesus Christ'.   ALSO,  in this moment there is a man of God, with far more resources than I to help you come to a Close Personal Relationship with God, Jesus, and the Holy Spirit has a great website and TV preaching program for you.  Click the link below, explore the website, and you will come to understand the Personal Relationship God wants with you.
